Sailor Moon is NOT coming back!? This is not a question...more of a statement for all you Sailor Moon lovers out there (I am one of them). Sailor Moon is not coming back. It was banned from being shown or even selling in the US. First reason: Many people (religious people mainly) found out that Uranus and Neptune were lesbians and were totally against that. Second Reason: Almost every senshi/scout goes naked at one point or another in the show. This is against the laws in the US. The reason being is that it implies that a minor (whether drawn or real) is nude. And this is completely not allowed. Due to the fact that they're TRYING to get rid of perverts (which will never happen). So stop sending emails/bulletins/blogs about it coming back cause it's NOT! If you want more Sailor Moon check out the japanese live action version called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (PGSM for short). It's NOT dubbed and they only made 50 episodes but I am addicted and I'm sure you'll like it too. | Actually, Sailor Moon Was Banned for reasons other then you think, as sad as that is -.-. However, a live action movie is apparently in production, though no confirmation has been stated, various celebrities claim to have a part in it, which I'm somewhat interested in o.o
The anime 5th season was banned from being dubbed for four reasons:
1. Like you said, Amara and Michelle are lesbians, and in the 5th season, they really show that, unlike in previous seasons where it coupld be explained with dubs, it couldn't anymore.
2. The final form Sailor Moon Enters when the other sailor scouts are all dead is ENTIRELY naked, again what you said, though the other scouts nakedness could easily be edited, sailor moons could not.
3. The deaths of the scouts. The 4 inner senshi all sacrifice themselves to protect Sailor moon and the starlights, and then Neptune and Uranus turn around and kill Pluto and Saturn, which friends killing friends is not something allowed on TV.
4. The Sailor Starlights are originally guys who transform into girls, which isn't allowed in a guy show, and there was NO way of covering that up, as they were shirtless in civilian form a few times -.-
For those interested in PGSM, go to Tvnihon.com and check out the bittorrent tracker, they have all the episodes SUBBED in english there :) You can also find all of the episodes on Youtube under PGSM - Act __ I think as well :)
EDIT: to the person below, E A C, the second is NOT abvoidable, as it's not the trainsformation, the ENTIRE time she's transformed she's naked, which is when the final battle takes place =P | Is she a lesbian? her jokes and teases to me are kinda.. erotic? (details inside)? There's this new girl in school and in a few days she already has a lot of friends. Ok I have to admit, she's tall and beautiful. Let's name her Less and let's name me Mari, to cover our identity :D And when my friends started liking her, I dunno, I didn't just like it. She has that over flowing confidence oozing and she thinks everybody likes her. She acts older than her age too. So there's this day when she came in 'cuz she was absent for 2 days and all the students came to her and it's as if I were in a japanese anime where the students who love her is exaggerating. Then she looked at me and stared and I was like wth. I'm not sure but maybe she was thinking why I wasn't there, wahaha. So after a few days she became wierd 'cuz she kept paying attention to me, teasing me, looking at me then there was one time when she winked at me! >.< so of course I was shocked and just I looked away. I gave her the impression that I didn't like her, like raising my eyebrow when she talks to me, when we pass each other by the hallway.. I don't give way so we bump shoulders, etc. I know she's not that stupid not to notice it but still.. I think she's getting too friendly, she always smiles at me, she talks to me more unlike before, etc. Then there was this time when we the teacher told me to get the papers from Less's armchair and distribute it to everybody so I went towards the papers and there she was, watching me then when I got ahold of the papers, she held it too and whispered to me "Hard to get?.. I like it" then she winked! then she still followed me with her eyes while I was distributing the papers and I feel so naked! Then there was also this time when we were rehearsing for a presentation, we're in different groups then I just happened to watch her act a line then she saw me looking at her then she said "What's this? don't tell me Mari loves me now, 'cuz if it is, then I won't be able to be gentle with you" I'll never forget that, it even rhymed! then she said "so how was it?" me: "how was what?" she: "my acting of course" me: "that was an act?" then she told her groupmates she'll get a glass of water then when she passed by me she said "I know you know it wasn't an act" But she's kinda sexy when she gets mad, haha sorry had to put that in. I think she's a lesbian but I also think that she just wants my attention.. I dunno, what do you think?? But she's super nice and guydish when she knows I'm not in a good mood. | Well she's definitely flirting with you... but the question is does she like you or is she just a tease?
It's hard to tell, because even from your question i can tell she's really full of herself sometimes, therefore possibly more likely to be a tease.
If you like her, flirt back. If you don't, make sure you don't play along in any of her flirting games | Why is our culture terrified of sexuality? PROLOGUE: Understand, this post is not directed as a challenge to those who are religious minded. I am addressing this question to those with no specific supreme being or doctrine to answer to.
Am I alone in noticing that, while it seems like a majority of American citizens do not strongly align themselves with any religion ( www.religioustolerance.org/rel_ra… ), our culture continues to cling to a Victorian myopia regarding sexuality?
For example, my own observations are that greater than half of the Yahoo Answers community chime in with this attitude by prefixing "ew!" or "gross!" to any question that passingly involves sexuality.
Anyone who speaks openly or honestly about sex is often carelessly labeled a "pervert" by their peers. Those flinging this epithet do not often think about the fact that the word's initial intention was to classify religious heretics in a manner unrelated to sexuality: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pervert#Us…
Some non-mainstream movements which overlap sexual taboo: such as Gay and Lesbian rights organizations, Nudists, and Otaku have gained western mind share in the last half-century, but it seems as though this has only occurred in lockstep with renouncing sexuality in order to recast themselves in the public eye.
---
For example, Nudism advocates will cry "Do not sexualize nudity!" and distance themselves from anyone who admits being aroused by the naked human form. From what I have read, the party line among nudists is to celebrate our bodies in their natural state, but also to ban individuals who demonstrate any natural involuntary arousal response (for example, male erections).
---
Homosexuals and Bisexuals strive to gain acceptance in our society regardless of their sexual preferences, and to bond together to form loosely knit communities which celebrate their diversity. However — despite the core dispute between this group and the mainstream being about activities which occur in the bedroom — the fight for acceptance appears to me to have centered more upon gender stereotypes and tolerance of superficial behavioral differences, backed by the attitude "what we do in private is none of your business".
As someone who anticipates the day when the LGBT community no longer suffers from injustice, I feel disappointed by this approach. Much like they are trimming the ends off of a weed of intolerance which they ought to be extracting by the roots. But I address this question with a broader scope because I believe the problem I cite extends beyond the confines of this one movement.

"Otaku" are more commonly known as fans of Japanese culture. Either commercially or as armatures; they import comics, media and merchandise from our neighbors across the pacific. While I neither subscribe to nor understand all components of oriental culture myself, I appreciate that there is a vast amount we can learn from the way they perceive the world which might improve our own way of life.
Unfortunately, in order to strike a chord in the western marketplace, Otaku tend to "sanitize" mainstream Japanese media when offering English language equivalents here. They do this by censoring, excising or purposely mistranslating material which is considered shocking or sexually provocative here in the US, while mainstream and harmless in the orient.
As a result of this, I allege that we are presented an amputated view of cultural reality outside of our own sheltered hemisphere. I find that bare fact magnitudes more disturbing than I would ever find any nudity or cheeky innuendo.
---
My position is that ignorance breeds ignorance. The more our culture fears, shuns, and ignores the essential part of being human that is sexuality, the more we will have to fear from the sexually-related crime headlines (also magnified out of proportion by sensationalism) which in turn fuel our willful ignorance.
I demand this vicious cycle be stopped, and I suggest that the first step is for each of us to look into our own lives at our own fear of sexuality and master that. Then we can participate, as part of this culture, to put on the brakes against obtuse intolerance.
---
So I put the question to you: Do you agree with my assessment of our cultural hypocrisy? If so, do you agree this is the best way to resist it, or have you other options for us to consider? If you do not agree, what is your viewpoint instead?
Thank you for your consideration. | Hi Melinda,
I agree with the vast majority of what you're saying. I do feel though that even though sexually related crime is sensationalized, I do feel that heavy coverage of this topic is important. I personally feel that some percentage of crimes in this category are caused by how our culture deals with the subject of sexuality. I therefore feel that in a round-about way the media clamoring about sex crime does force us as a nation to look at how we view sexuality.
As to whether or not there is a better way to bring about change - I really don't know. I thought that to a large extent the hippies of the 60's were on the right track with the whole free love thing. But, that generation seems to have become the mainstay of today's fundamentalist religious movement.
I agree with you that change is needed though am at a loss as to how to push that along effectively. I am interested to see what other answers you get. | Is she a lesbian? her jokes and teases to me are kinda.. erotic? (details inside)? Her comments are laced with double meanings and she does sound flirtatious but I really do not know if she is lesbian, bi-sexual or just provocative.
I am more interested in your response. You seem to want to stand up to her and yet seem strangely attracted at the same time. If you are interested in her there is only one way to find out. |
