| Anal fissures are extremely painful, like passing razor blades. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. There are three things that you didn't mention that could help: First, go as soon as you have to go, don't try to hold it in, it only makes it worse because then you have to stretch to keep it in. Second, there is a steroid cream (you will need a prescription from a doctor) that can be applied topically and it will decrease the inflammation and help with some of the pain. Third, take a warm bath every night. Although this seems simple, the warmth helps the muscles relax so the fissure can heal some. | I feel your pain- been there and it's horrible. the constipation will unfortunately make you strain for bowel movements and will not help the area heal. Take laxatives to soften your stools because as long as the constipation is there the fissure will not get better. Keep using creams- prep H is a good one and can help soothe the area. I found baths helped a bit as did using lubricant when I had a bowel movement. I also used cold compresses on the affected area. Cold worked for me but I have heard that heat can also help. However, I would recommend seeing a doc. 2 years is a long time to suffer this and it must make you miserable- I remember crying over the pain sometimes and it really got me down. |

I have an Anal Fissure Right Now :( I have to take a warm bath daily, use baby wipes when I go to the bathroom, and use preparation H everyday for at least 2 weeks because they can come back and if they keep coming back you will have scar tissue which then leads to surgery.
