Which is the best original England 2010 WC song by an amateur!?
There are loads now posted on YouTube etc., however I am not concerned with those by established artists or if it is just another remake of an original with the words changed. Which have you seen recently that gets your thumbs up. Comment both on the song and the video.
It's being re-released again is 3 Lions and this time by Robbie Williams.

Is there a difference between the bowling balls at the bowling alley and the ones that pros use?
I am at the bowling alley using their balls, and I can't seem to get the ball to spin like the professions do on TV where the ball goes from the center to the edge near the gutter and back to the middle or even like the amateurs at the bowling alley who have their own balls. It seems like it naturally goes straight at an angle to the gutter then rotates straight back at the center of the alley. I don't suppose they are all palming it with 2 fingers. It is because the holes of the fingers and thumb hole are futher apart that naturally makes the ball curve back?

Thanks in advance for the answers!
Unless you have your own bowling ball drilled to fit your hand, hooking coverstock/core bowling balls, intermediate skill, it may be difficult to emulate how the professional bowlers deliver the ball with just the polyester or urethane house bowling balls. They are not high performance bowling balls by any stretch, but I've seen bowlers that palm the bowling ball using only their fingers deliver it like the pros.

For me, I've had lots of experience in the sport and can even deliver a house ball in a way that I can strike with. You don't have to deliver the ball like the pros because there is no such thing. Professional bowlers need to throw their strike balls either straight from the outside, the center of the lane and by using inside line targets. Walter Ray Williams and Tommy Jones are like night and day, but if they need to, they can both hook and/or throw a straight ball when the lane conditions dictate it.

I can make my polyester Elite Alien spare ball act like my Brunswick Fuze and PBA Inferno with a rainbow hook, but only when the lanes are totally bone dry. Just practice and experiment. That's how you can fine tune your game and build your average up.

Wikipedia is written by amateurs for amateurs and is full of errors?
I automatically give a thumbs down to anyone who quotes Wikipedia as their source.

Agree or disagree.

10 points for the best example of Wikipedia stupidity.

I don't use Wikipedia for that reason but I don't automatically give a thumbs down to someone who used it.
Wood whittling: Is a pocket knife good enough for whittling a knife?
I have this great piece of drift wood that I've had lying around for years, I've managed to carve the general shape of a blade, and even a nice thumb grip. I don't want to destroy the wood, so before I commit, is it possible to carve a fine and sharp blade from wood using only a pocket knife? How long did it take before you became good at the art? Can an amateur create a nice and functional piece?
Friends who carve all use different kinds of knifes.
Some use a cheap little knife that is sold for peeling potatoes. Others use craft knifes.
And others again use their pocket knifes.

As long as the knife is sharp size and shape are just personal preference.

People who do real fine detailed work in hard wood sometimes use files, like they use in detailed metalwork. You could use a file in the way people use a sharpening stone.

To make a wooden blade sharp is much harder, it can be done to a certain point, by fire hardening.
Hold your wood over the hot coals, (not the flames) or bury it in the coals, till the outsides are getting blackened. You next scrape the black away and do it again.
So you need to start well before the blade is in its final shape.
Even if the blade gets rather sharp and hard it will not be strong compared to metal blades.
Why do men try so hard to play amateur psychiatrist when it comes to how women think?
I've never had any experience being a man, so I don't pretend to know what goes through guys' minds.

Yet the men on here are constantly posting that women like jerks, women mean "try harder" when they say "no," women think being treated nicely is boring.

And then when several women answer the question saying that they do not like jerks, have a whole lot more respect for men who treat them nicely, and mean no when they say it, these guys call them liars and thumb them down.

How is it logical to tell someone who is voluntarily informing you what her kind REALLY likes, "nuh uh, you don't mean that. I said so."

Y'all have got it set up to where you just always win apparently...if a woman turns you down, she's just playing hard to get; she's not simply uninterested in you...you don't have to treat a woman nicely because she likes jerks; it doesn't matter that she explicitly told you that she wants a guy who treats her nicely...she doesn't mean that.

Please. If guys would spend more time actually listening to us than trying to tell US how we think and what we feel, they'd probably fare a whole lot better in the dating game.

We try to make things easy on you. We're telling you what traits we like in men. You're telling us that we don't know what we're talking about.

Maybe the next time a guy says something to me I should just come back with "nuh uh, you don't really believe that. I don't want you to."
Because they assume they know more than women, even if that includes what we think, what we feel, how we would react, etc..
Note the word assume (@$$)
Im going to try to plant some flowers but...?
I've never had a green thumb, but this year im hoping it will change. i bought some seeds at the local super market and im hoping to start planting them tonight. I bought Delphinium seeds and "humming bird" mixture.

Are these good seeds for an amateur to start with? Should i pick up something else too? I want to start with something easy to get my confidence up. Also, what are some really good/easy tips and tricks for making sure they survive?
Some of the easiest flowers to grow from seed are:
Marigolds
Zinnias
Cosmos
Balsam
Sunflowers

They can be started in pots or planted directly in the
ground after frost is past.

These are all practically foolproof, plus you'll get
lots of cut flowers.
What do you think about my paper(700 words)...all criticism appreciated :D?
Roman Gladiators
Gladiators in ancient Rome were both professional and amateur armed combatants who fought for the entertainment of a public audience against other gladiators, wild animals, and convicted criminals. Many were prisoners of war who had been made slaves, yet others were volunteers who fought for money to pay off debt while others were after fame and glory.
Although literary sources do not agree, it is believed that the gladiator games came from Etruria. The first gladiator schools were in Campania. Tomb frescoes from the Campanian city of Paestum illustrate a pair of armed fighters during a funeral blood-rite in the 4th century BC. In 216 BC the sons of Marcus Ameilius Lepidus honored him with three continuous days of 7 gladiator fights each. In 206 BC Scipio Africanus gave tribute to his father and uncle who had been killed in the Punic Wars with Carthage. A century later in 105 BC, the Roman consuls sponsored the first barbarian combat as part of a military training program. This program proved to be very popular, and the state games began to be sponsored by the ruling elite in honor of deities, ancestors, and later for emperors.
Gladiators were traded throughout the entire Roman Empire. The continuous Roman conquest resulted in many surrendered soldiers being turned to slaves and gladiators. Those who were not accepted into gladiator training were used as noxii, while the best of the gladiators however, were sent to Rome.
Gladiators could be anywhere from slaves, to prisoners of war, and Romans stripped of their citizenship and sentenced to the arena for a crime such as arson, treason, or refusing to pay taxes. The worst offenders were the noxii, men condemned to fight with their hands against wild animals or other men in the arena. Those convicted less harshly would be sentenced to fight wild animals of men but are armed appropriately and had a chance of survival; some even reached the height of gladiators.
A number of emperors such as Caligula, Titus, Hadrian, Lucius Verus, Caracalla, Geta and Didius Julianus preformed in the arena. However, they limited the risk to themselves greatly my fighting unfairly against other men and animals. Most times when fighting against animals they would fire arrows upon them from a raised platform and when fighting men they would be much better armed and armored. Two examples of this are Claudius who fought a whale trapped in a harbor and Commodus who killed 100 lions by firing on them with a bow and arrow.
Most gladiators only fought 2 to 5 battles per year, lasting about 15 minutes each. Contrary to common conception, gladiators had a 90% chance of surviving a battle. Those injured in a fight were provided with some of the best medical care during the Roman period, as doctors were able to treat mostly all flesh wounds. Well recognized gladiators could earn in one battle the salary of a Roman soldier for an entire year.
Gladiator schools were called ludi and were as common as amphitheaters were throughout the empire. There were four of these schools in the city of Rome, the largest being the Ludus Magnus which was connected to the coliseum by an underground tunnel. The most famous of any of the schools is that of Capua, where Spartacus began his rebellion in 73 BC.
Again, contrary to common beliefs, gladiator combat was not likely to result in death. Gladiators were expensive to maintain, train, and replace in case of death. However fighters who were unknown of did not put up a good fight were more often than not subject to the harsh crowd’s mercy. There are many theories of how the crowd indicated to a victor whether to spare or finish off his opponent. The most common is that of the thumbs-up/thumbs-down, which some say the thumbs down meant to put down the weapon and others that it represented the motion of stabbing the chest, and that the thumbs up meant to help the loser on his feet and others to finish off the battle. Either way the popular crowd was not the final judge of a battle, but either the emperor when present or the sponsor, both of which found it very wise to abide by the crowd’s desire. When the two gladiators fought bravely or both were well recognized they were both often declared winners and given wooden swords.
The year 325 AD is the first time gladiatorial combat was outlawed, but continues until the mid 5th century. Honorius is credited with finally banning these fights as the empire was nearing its collapse. The last know gladiator fight is the city of Rome was on January 1, 404 AD.
I think its fine and you have every single detail needed but you added to many and I think you did a great job, now it would be a waste to throw this away.
Have you heard the facts about the new missing Link Ida?
The well-preserved fossil (95 percent complete, including fossilized fur and more) is about the size of a raccoon and includes a long tail. It resembles the skeleton of a lemur (a small, tailed, tree-climbing primate). The fossil does not resemble a human skeleton.

The fossil was found in two parts by amateur fossil hunters in 1983. It eventually made its way through fossil dealers to the research team.

Ida has opposable thumbs, which the ABC News article states are “similar to humans’ and unlike those found on other modern mammals” (i.e., implying that opposable thumbs are evidence of evolution). Yet lemurs today have opposable thumbs (like all primates). Likewise, Ida has nails, as do other primates. And the talus bone is described as “the same shape as in humans,” despite the fact that there are other differences in the ankle structure.

Unlike today’s lemurs (as far as scientists know), Ida lacks the “grooming claw” and a “toothcomb” (a fused row of teeth) In fact, its teeth are more similar to a monkey’s. These are minor differences easily explained by variation within a kind.

Given these facts, it may seem incredible that anyone would hail this find as a “missing link.” Do you thing this is the missing Link? If not, "what" do you think is going on in the media? Are the News casters guilty of spreading misinformation? Is spreading misinformation through the media a good or bad thing?
You cannot trust secular media, they have their own agenda and report only what they want you to see.
